- Learn on a peer to peer level from other rising stars and established great acts of the acappella scene
- Mix up your style: We aim to get experts on every form of a cappella, ranging from modern Pop, World Music, Jazz to the great masters of the Renaissance. We aim to be international and to always have at least one great international artist.
- Get a professional AV recording of your performance.
- Listen to a wowing roller coaster of different a cappella styles in the concert
- Get to ask your questions on how to build an a cappella group to our guest speaker (t.b.a.)
Who can participate
You are interested in a cappella ? Yes, please, we do want you!
Participation is open to four tiers: Local Groups and National / International groups / Individuals / schools.
We want groups of both tiers to apply and make only a minor distinction:
Local Groups
- Local Groups do not have to meet a professional standard and will not be guaranteed or have to have hold an own workshop. This we will decide together closer to the time. Bear in mind: Even if you consider yourself to be "only" on amateur or semi-pro level: Depending on what you are doing and what the other groups have specialized in, you might hold some valuable expertise for them. Whether that be Irish, Welsh or Scottish folk music or the art of Anglican Cathedral singing.
- Local groups will also be asked to help with front of house, concert logistics etc. on the day.
Non - Local Groups
- Non-Local Groups are expected to hold a 45min workshop on a theme of their choice on the day.
- Private Accommodation can be provided.
- We will apply for funding to fund travel bursaries etc., help with organizing a tour around the event, if there is interest in that and liaise with other festivals.
Individuals
- Join all the workshops
- Listen to an amazing concert
- Listen to the guest speaker (tba)
- Mix, Mingle and Network with the other ensembles
Schools
We would like to get young persons involved in making a cappella music: We offer:
- giving a special concert on school grounds
- workshops for school a cappella groups or larger choirs
- talks / vocal tuition
- all our English staff are DBS checked, our international artists will not be
Costs
Participating ensembles are not expected to pay for the festival, however, unfortunately, we cannot pay you either at this stage. If we get funding we will apply for travel fees covered for everyone. This of course only works, if our dear audience gives generously!
How to participate?
We do ask ensembles to come and join us, but initial requests are also very welcome.
You can contact us at northernacappellafestival AT gmail.com if you have any questions or
register your interest right here.
How do the groups get chosen?
To have the a cappella festival work we are aiming for a group set up which at least:
- includes a headliner, preferably international, with a newly released recording
- two groups from the North
- a mix of various styles in repertoire
- ideally one group should be a relative newcomer
- the headliner should be willing to assign 1-2 "mentors" to the local groups
