About the Festival

The Northern Acappella Festival is a fresh format in the North.

The idea came to mind when some of Liverpool's conductors sat together and saw that while there is a huge amount of groups of semi professional level in Liverpool alone, there is no platform where they meet, exchange, sing together and blast the expectant audience away.

The Northern Acappella Festival does not exclude sacred music but does focus more on music which you cannot hear in the various cathedrals.

Two to three acappella groups meet yearly from all ilks of the profession: Alte Musik, Barbershop, Jazz or zesty Pop.

Local groups will be joined by an international headliner and newcomer at the top of their profession.

For the audience this provides a wide and varied program of 90-120 minutes and our groups have the chance to meet, exchange ideas and engage in workshops with each other.

Especially for groups which are preparing for competitions or masterclasses it gives the chance to polish a slim program instead of a full concert and to get feedback on peer level from the other groups.

The best thing (arguably) is: The whole project is donation based and the profit will be split between the groups. Give what you can - the better our donations are the easier it will be to get the next headliner!

Do find out more about our groups, and have a look in how to apply to be part of this project next year.

The Ensembles

We are so happy that Neon Vokal is travelling all the way from Lillestrom near Oslo this year to come and sing for us and work with our ensembles. They are an absolute privilege to have!

Neon Vokal is a vocal ensemble with 7 singers from Lillestrøm near Oslo.

The ensemble has a number of top places in national and international choir competitions, and in October 2017 they were named Norwegian Champion for choir 2017-19!

Amongst their recordings the Norwegian folk music collaboration with Jo Asgeir Lie and Frøydis Grorud was immortalized in the EP "evig".

Their repertoire ranges from Norwegian folk music and classical to jazz and pop. The group is known for creating much excitement and emotive responses from the audience with their playful and beautiful arrangements and compositions, some of them written by the ensemble members themselves!

Liverpool’s newest all female chamber choir, strives to create beautiful music that resonates with the community.

The choir strives to create beautiful music that resonates with the community. Their aim is to inspire and uplift through their performances, showcasing the talents of their members.

Their unique brand is that they are unapologetically themselves, seeking to challenge the image of chamber music in a unique and contemporary way.

Subito MF is a young, six voiced ensemble based in Liverpool that does not want to assign itself to just one style. "From Pop to Palestrina" or possibly the other way round is the motto.

They work without a conductor and each of the singers aim to blend utterly in the group sound.

The members are all friends, which helps, and have met each other and sung with each other in a range of different contexts about two years before they came together as a group, so watch out for them.

While this is only their second "gig" you can listen in to some excerpts of their first one below.
